This week’s verse is from a book written by the prophet Jeremiah. In chapter 32 of Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar’s army was besieging Jerusalem. Zedekiah, king of Judah, had imprisoned Jeremiah in the courtyard of the guard in the royal palace of Judah. King Zedekiah was a bit perturbed when Jeremiah prophesied that Zedekiah would be taken captive to Babylon. So he silenced the messenger so he could live in denial of the warning.

Last year my youngest son had surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids. At the time, he was only four, but the doctor felt he had signs of sleep apnea. He had a constant battle to breathe normally. This affected a lot of his daily routine. It really made his life miserable in areas that I took for granted.

We had been practicing for weeks to ensure our “performance” was flawless, and we were expressing all that upper management expected the customers to hear and understand. Our company brought in many customers to attend the Ryder Cup a couple of weeks ago. However, before the customers could go over to the golf play, they had to attend a series of executive briefings and see demos on all of our technology to hopefully convince the customers to continue doing business with us or even start doing business with us.

When Jesus left the temple for the last time, He prophesied that not one stone would be left upon another. It prompted His disciples to ask Him in Matthew 24:3, "When will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" Then Jesus begins to tell His chosen disciples the signs. He starts with a strong command for His people to watch out so that no one deceives them. Watch out! Beware!

Not about the Ritual |

Our church has begun a New Testament challenge to read through all of the New Testament in the next nine weeks. In going back through some of the New Testament books, I was reminded again and again what God desires out of a true heart of worship. He is not looking for the rituals and the observance of the laws. He is looking for a changed heart that longs solely to be with Him and know Him more deeply and intimately than before.

This week’s verse is a follow up verse from last week. Last week, we learned Psalm 73:25 which says, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” Thisweek we will learn Psalm 73:26 which says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” The Hebrew transliteration for the word “fail” is raphah. It means “to sink, relax, sink down, let drop, to be disheartened, to refrain, let alone, to show oneself slack.”

I love my friends. God has blessed me beyond measure with such amazing friends. I had lunch with some of them the other day. We had a laughter episode during our lunch. I found myself laughing so hard I was crying, and the muscles in my stomach were hurting. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard! It felt so good to be with my Sisters and be filled with the joy of the Lord. When I left, I was full of gratitude and thankfulness for the blessing they are to me.

Several months ago, we were watching the weather before heading off to bed. A pretty nasty line of storms was slowly making its way across the state and eventually appeared that it would be heading in our direction. In some of the other states it had crossed, it had spawned severe thunderstorms and even tornados.

The Judgment Seat of Christ |

Paul said that all believers will stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account of our lives on earth. Jesus will hold the court. On earth, He stood before Jewish leaders, Pilate, and Herod. In heaven, believers who died and then resurrected or were raptured will appear before Him to be judged for their faithfulness to God.

This week’s verse is from the psalms. Actually, it’s a psalm of Asaph. It says, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” Through the question, “Whom have I in heaven but you,” he is saying, “You are all I have! Everyone else may leave me. They may let me down. They make turn their backs on me.
