Rise and Stand in Confidence
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/30/2011 1:19 PM
"I know that the Lord saves his anointed..." There is no doubt in this phrase. It’s quite the opposite. There is absolute confidence in the salvation of the Lord. We are God's chosen people, His children, and His beloved. He saves us. He is saving us now. In each refining period, He is purifying us and shaping us into the women that He created us to be; women with purpose who are characterized by the image of Christ that we reflect, with grace and gentleness and trust.

Rosh Hashanah
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/28/2011 8:15 AM
In Leviticus 23:1, God spoke to Moses, “…These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies .” The rest of the chapter describes the seven feasts. Tonight begins the fifth of the seven Jewish feasts - Rosh Hashanah, the Feast of Trumpets, the Jewish New Year! Rosh Hashanah means “head of the year.”

God’s Pleasure
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/27/2011 3:50 PM
I’ve been thinking about this verse for a long time. This verse simply says without faith there is no way that we will ever please God. It’s impossible. Our unbelief will make it impossible to please God. Now isn’t that something? I might guess that it would be my continuous acts of sin, my inability to focus on eternal things, or the time that I waste

All Scripture is God-breathed. This does not merely mean that God inspired the writers of the Bible. He breathed the Scriptures into being. The Bible is not merely good thoughts that came into man’s mind, but rather the very words of God breathed into man to write down for all mankind.

Life Spent With Grief
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/23/2011 5:57 AM
Grieving is an important step in healing when there is a loss or an end. I found this to also be true for the broken-hearted parent of a prodigal child. The poor choices of the child result in many losses for the entire family. While other young people are going to the movies or the prom, you are counting how many more days of grounding are left and wondering when the next lie will be exposed.

The Chosen Twelve
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/23/2011 5:40 AM
My family has participated in the Lexington Passion Play which portrays the last week of Jesus’ life for several years. I did not realize until my fifth year how much God has used it in my family. Two months after the play was finished, my daughters still sang the songs every day. My daughter Sophia bursted out at the dinner table with her favorite song, “He is Jehovah, Lord God Almighty.” Additionally, I had not realized the impact it had on me.

What is Faith
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/20/2011 8:49 PM
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about faith. We are saved by faith, by believing that Jesus was God’s Son who died on the cross for our sins. But believing God doesn’t stop at our salvation experience. God has invited us to believe Him for all the days of our lives. He invites us to believe Him for promises that may come true in days and promises that may take decades, and generations to come.

Christ Compels Ministry Update

The picture is from a conference that I did at Crosslands Community Church in Bowling Green. This week I’m videotaping a teaching on the faith of Jacob. Then I will return to writing the Elijah Bible study. It is sizzling and God is bringing it together well. I started a Christ Compels Ministry Facebook Page. If you like it this month, then you will be entered into a drawing to receive a Jesus Lives DVD.

First Fruits
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/15/2011 8:22 AM
Recently the Lord was really speaking into my heart about how I start out my day and what types of “offerings” throughout the day I was making to Him. Was I focused on starting each day with Him and giving Him the first fruits of my labors, or was I waiting to see what else came along during the day and calling on Him when I needed Him? Was I giving Him the leftovers of my labors, the labors that were already battered and blemished?

Stairway to Heaven
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 9/14/2011 8:53 PM
Jesus traveled from town to town preaching the good news of the kingdom of God. While He was in Galilee, He called Philip to follow Him. Philip found his friend Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael questioned how anything good could from Nazareth
