Our God Who Will Save
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 7/29/2011 8:09 AM
How heartbreaking it is to know that people pray to gods who cannot save and cannot deliver them. This is happening now, all over the world, just as it did in Isaiah's day. It's so easy to get numb to it. With all of these religions surrounding us, we can lose our sensitivity to the tragedy that encompasses so many. People are lost and blinded. They don't know this God who saves. Later in this chapter of Isaiah, the Lord calls out, "Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other."

Stranger in a Strange Land
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 7/28/2011 10:46 AM
Fortunately, my previous job allowed me the opportunity to travel around the world and visit some really wonderful countries. One of my favorite things about traveling is learning about the various cultures of the countries that I have visited. And I will admit that at times, because those cultures are so different from my own, I have felt very much like a stranger in a strange world as I have visited so many of these countries.

The Kingdom of God

John baptized the people with water. He understood that the purpose of his life was just to prepare the way for the Messiah. When Jesus Messiah appeared on the scene and he baptized him, he said of Jesus in John 3:30, “He must become greater; I must become less.”

Into the Den

When was the last time that you had to stand up for something that you very much believed in but knew that it would cause you trouble in the end? Many days in my job there are things that come before me causing me to choose between the ways of the world and the ways of men. Even in our families, we must make choices sometimes about what we really believe in and are willing to fight for in this world.

I don’t know about you, but someone telling me to rest awhile is not a very common thing. As a mother of three, rest is the last thing that is willingly offered to me. I fill my life with MANY good things. I believe this is true of most people. Look at this list:

It's Bath Time

Okay I admit it that I just love bath time with my kids. Ever since they were little babies, I have loved seeing them splashing around in the water and having a good time. They come in from a good day of playing out in the yard or a certain football game, and they are typically covered in dirt and grime.

Make Straight

He was one of the most colorful prophets of the Bible. He stirred up Israel and set the stage for Jesus to enter. Isaiah prophesied about him 700 years before his birth. The religious leaders thought he was crazy. His parents praised God for letting them be his parents and for blessing them with him in their old age. Numerous people were baptized by him. Herod hated him. Some of Jesus’ disciples followed him before they followed Jesus.

Two Dwellings for Faith
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 7/15/2011 8:47 AM
Recently I have been restudying faith since I have experienced disappointments in unanswered prayers – prayers that I prayed in what I thought was great faith. This presents challenges in fully believing some of the promises God makes in the Bible especially when we pray and pray and then we WAIT for the manifestation to show up.

Final Approach
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 7/14/2011 8:31 AM
As you read through the passages above, really meditate on all that was transpiring at this one time. Jesus knew what was going to happen to Him in just a couple of days. He knew as He approached the city that entering Jerusalem would sign His death certificate. He knew that this was the point of no return, and He embraced it willingly.
