A Broad Path
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/31/2011 9:26 AM
In verse 36, David says that God has provided a broad path for his feet. Imagine how important it was in battle to stay on your feet. If you fell, most likely you died. Imagine taking a long journey over dangerous terrain. The wider the path, the less chance one had of slipping. A slip on a dangerous mountain could be deadly. For someone on the run, a broad path meant he could move faster to escape.

Memorial Day Prayer
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/30/2011 10:45 AM
Today is Memorial Day when we commemorate the U.S. soldiers who died while in military service. It was first enacted to honor union and confederate soldiers following the civil war. It was extended after WWI to include Americans who have died in all wars.

Chosen
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/27/2011 7:48 AM
Chosen…What does this word mean to you? What feelings or emotions crop up? I had never given this much thought. I knew I was God’s child, but that was about it. The day I read the words penned by Isaiah, they became an eye opener. God began saying to my heart and mind, “I have chosen you. You are Mine.”

Our Sword of the Spirit
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/26/2011 8:00 PM
As in previous devotions, I have told you that I love the medieval period in the history of our world. There is just something too incredibly captivating about the stories from that period to my ever overactive imagination. My dreams as a little girl were of a knight in shining armor on a white horse that would rescue me from my captivity. He would be carrying a sword pointed up toward the sky and free me from my enemy.

God’s Training Camp
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/25/2011 1:38 PM
With three daughters involved in various sports, I have seen all different types of coaches and trainers. Not all of them have been effective at training my daughters. Some have not known how to speak their language to explain to them what to do or to motivate them. Some have been better than others at pulling out the most of their ability. So when David says, “He trains my hands for battle,” it brings all sorts of visuals to my mind. Training

Sharpen that Iron!
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/24/2011 6:18 AM
My daughter Mikayla tried out for the Kentucky Olympic Development Program (ODP) for soccer this year. She made the first cut to the state pool and the second cut to the state squad. By making the state squad, she earned the right to play in the games of the Kentucky ODP vs. the West Virginia ODP.

Mailing Our Prayers
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/20/2011 4:57 PM
Recently I was struggling with a prayer concern which I could not seem to release and leave with the Lord. My husband shared a devotion out of Streams in the Desert by L.B. Cowman which really spoke to me. To quote, “Genuine faith puts its letter in the mailbox and lets go. Distrust, however, holds on to a corner of the envelope and then wonders why the answer never arrives.”

Our Shield
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/19/2011 5:14 AM
Have you ever thought about if you could have been born in any era, what would it have been? Beyond a doubt, I would have chosen the medieval period. When I hear stories about knights and ladies in waiting, castles, and even the battles, my mind starts off on an imagination journey that I could bask in for hours.

Lookout Point
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/18/2011 4:02 PM
My daughter Mikayla’s 5th grade class took an overnight field trip to Cumberland Falls State Park. As part of the experience, we went on a nature hike. Now I’ve been trekking through the woods before so when I heard it was a 1 ½ mile walk and somewhat strenuous, I thought it would not be much of a problem. Well, we went up the hills and down the hills.

Scale a Wall
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/17/2011 3:44 PM
Okay this one is a spectacular verse! With the help of God, you and I not only can be protected in battle, we can actually advance against the army that opposes us. Now, this does not give us a license to be a troublemaker and stir up quarrels. This gives us assurance that when we must fight, we can win. Remember our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities of the air, the kingdom of darkness.
