Master It
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/28/2011 10:42 AM
Soon after Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden, we see Adam and Eve had two sons. Abel kept the flocks while Cain worked the soil. When it was time to present an offering to God, Abel brought the best portions, the fat portions, from some of the firstborn of his flock. Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil.

Have You Lost Focus?
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/27/2011 11:00 AM
When I was a little girl, I thought my parents were completely indestructible, that nothing could ever happen to them. I thought they would never grow old or have any physical limitations. None of us had ever really had any major physical issues, and for the most part we were a fairly healthy family outside of the normal colds and flu we all passed around from time to time.

A Hard Thing
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/23/2011 12:58 PM
In this Scripture, we have two super prophets…One the master and one the successor. Elisha has been Elijah’s companion and student for several years at this point. Elisha knows his master will depart from him on this day. He has shown that he is determined to stay by Elijah’s side.

One Thing I Ask
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/22/2011 5:48 PM
Last time, we memorized Psalm 27:1. There is another verse in this chapter that we should write on our hearts. It ties to the devotion from yesterday, too. Both David and Paul were focused on their God and having a close relationship with Him here and preparing to meet Him face-to-face. David could have asked God for many things.

One Thing
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/21/2011 5:51 PM
My daughter Mikayla surprised us when she came home from school and announced that she wanted to try out for the middle school basketball team. I was quite shocked since I didn’t even know if she could dribble. I realize this may get us banished from the state of Kentucky, but I didn’t even think she had watched five games of basketball her whole life.

Surely God Isn't Calling Me?
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/18/2011 11:59 AM
In 1992 I was asked to be a Women's Ministries Director for the first time. It was a very exciting prospect because God had been calling me into more involvements with women, and my response was "yes." As the time approached to put the ministry into action, I realized that I was in no way equipped to do this sort of ministry.

Our Story
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/17/2011 10:46 AM
Have you ever noticed that you have to read the whole story to understand what is actually happening in the story? The characters tend to build on each other throughout the length of the book. If you were to skip to the end of the story, you would know what happened, but you would not understand a lot about why the ending happened the way that it did, especially if it was a surprise ending.

He Confides in Me
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/16/2011 5:42 PM
Today we are looking at our last memory verse from Psalm 25. This verse is one of the great mysteries to me. It says, “The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.” I am in awe that God confides in men and women. I am in awe that He reveals His covenant to us.

The Impossible
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/16/2011 5:38 PM
During the time of drought in Israel prophesied by Elijah as judgment for turning to other gods, God led him to stay with the widow at Zarephath. God miraculously provided for this widow and her son through the prophet Elijah. Even though they had this continuous provision from God, some time later tragedy struck. Her son became ill.

Whom Shall I Fear?
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 2/15/2011 12:37 PM
When I was a child, I was afraid of everything. I was afraid of the ball hitting me in physical education class when we played bombardment and the balls were flying in the air from all directions. Too scared to put my face in the water and blow bubbles, I didn’t learn how to swim until I was in college. At night, I was afraid of what evil thing might be in the closet or under my bed.
