A Season for Everything
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/31/2011 10:59 AM
I’m just going to be very real with you today and tell you what has been happening this year. The month of January has been one of the hardest months of my life. My mother has been in and out of the hospital. Two of my sisters and I have been taking care of her.

Who Is Greatest?
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/30/2011 10:36 PM
Nathan, our six year old, like most children his age, struggles with what it means to truly be a servant. He constantly wants to be the center of attention and to be recognized for what he has accomplished. Aren’t we all like that sometimes! And, if he has to do so to the detriment of his little sister, then so be it!

God Remembers
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/28/2011 8:53 AM
Sitting on the floor, leaning against our bed, I sobbed, “Why, Lord, did you have to take my dad? I need him here! Why, Lord, Why?” This was my cry after my father passed away just three months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. I was devastated. Why would God take a man that was needed and loved so much?

Under Whose Wings
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/26/2011 3:23 PM
Because of the famine in Israel, Naomi and her husband decided to move to Moab. Moab was a polytheistic nation, which means that the people there worshiped many gods. Their two sons married Moabite women. Maybe Naomi grieved at first that her sons had chosen foreign wives and not Hebrew wives.

My Rebellious Ways
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/25/2011 10:06 PM
We have talked about trusting God, asking Him to show us, teach us, and guide us for we put our hope in Him. We have asked Him to not let us be put to shame or let our enemies triumph over us. Today, we will talk about something else that seeks to tear us down and strip us of our godly inheritance – our past before we walked with God…Our guilt…Our sin…Our rebellion.

At the beginning of every year, I take time to ponder over the year ahead and to evaluate my life. After spending time in prayer, I write down my list of goals for the year. When I was younger, it was a list of resolutions. However, resolutions were promises that I couldn’t keep.

Our children love to tell on each other. To them, there is something fulfilling about being able to come to Mom or Dad and let us know that the other is doing something we would probably not approve of or have told them not to do. The reason they come to tell us what is happening is not because of some need to ensure that the other does not get hurt or does something wrong.

Are Your Feet Clean?
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/21/2011 5:42 PM
I was washing my feet this evening after a long day of walking around busy Taichung City. They were dry and dirty, wearing the dust and grime of the places I had been in my flip-flops. I was pouring water over them and rubbing them with soap when this passage from the Bible came to my mind - a familiar story of Jesus as a servant.

Miracles or Enduring Hardships?
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/19/2011 8:15 PM
Paul is writing to the Corinthians. He is telling them that he wants them to understand his group’s hardships. The pressure was great. It was far beyond their ability to endure that they despaired even of life. In their hearts, they felt the sentence of death. Their situation was so grave they thought they would die.

Guide Me
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 1/18/2011 10:03 PM
Remember Psalm 25 was written by the Shepherd King David. David continues by beseeching God to guide him. He wants to walk with God. He asks God to lead him and to be his guide. He wants to know the right way to go. He wants to walk in truth. He has seen what it looks like to walk in lies.
