Pray Without Ceasing
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/29/2010 12:07 PM
Pray without ceasing? Pray continually? Our first response to this is usually one of shock because our lives are so full, and we are so busy. How could we possibly pray all day long? What does this look like for us?

In His Footsteps
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/28/2010 7:30 PM
Many years ago, when I was a small girl, my family would travel to Florida for a week during the summer. A dear woman at my dad’s church owned a condominium down at a place called Madeira Beach, and she would allow us to stay there for a week to rest and relax as a family. There are so many incredible memories from those trips.

The Beyond–ness of Jesus
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/27/2010 6:33 AM
Jesus had taken three of His disciples up the mountain to a secluded place. There He was transfigured before their very eyes. The Greek word “transfigured” is metatmorphoo, which is an outward change that comes from within. We derive our word metamorphosis from it. Jesus had removed the cocoon of human flesh and bone. Jesus had revealed His secret identity.

Led by Cords of Kindness
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/25/2010 1:59 PM
On Mondays, we are discussing how to be led by God and to live out His best plan for our lives. In our search to find the one true path, we are addressing how to no longer be misled and how to be led by God. Hosea 11:4 says, “I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them.” In the previous passages before verse 4, God spoke about how He loved the nation of Israel when the nation was young and called them out of Egypt.

Thankful and Alert
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/22/2010 1:56 PM
The clock was warning that church was about to start without me. Rushing to get out of the house, I ran to the door to call my dog inside. When I looked out, my eyes met his. He was staring at me with a panicked look on his face. Suddenly I realized he was choking!

Bench Warmers
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/22/2010 1:55 PM
Our family decided to let our son play flag football this year as his fall sport. I was excited about this prospect as I love football and watch whenever I am able. However, the team that we got on was not exactly star performance and struggled with all of the fundamentals of the game as most had never before played.

My Counselor
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/20/2010 10:43 AM
At the beginning of Psalm, David is crying out to God to keep him safe and to preserve him. David turned to God when he needed refuge. He ends up praising God for who He is and reminds himself of the God he worships. David knew God as his Counselor.

Hoping Leads to Soaring
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/19/2010 8:19 PM
For the past couple of weeks, we have been working on Isaiah 40:28-30 which says, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall.”

Deluded Heart
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/19/2010 8:14 PM
We have been talking on Mondays about how to find God’s best plan for our lives. We want to know the best path that brings the most glory to God on this side of heaven as well as satisfaction to our souls. In our quest to find the one true path, we need to address how to avoid being misled. We don’t want to make any more choices that we deeply regret or be fooled again. We want to be wise women of God.

Autumn Leaves and Barrenness
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 10/17/2010 6:54 PM
Autumn is probably my favorite time of year as I love to see the beautiful foliage as it turns various shades of red, green, and gold. Then the foliage drops to the ground leaving a barren tree or bush. Scripture talks about trees, comparing the Christian to a tree planted by the rivers of water.
