The Return Home
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/28/2010 9:17 AM
I have loved the Lord all my life. I gave my life to him when I was at a summer camp during my junior high years. I have never doubted my conversion that Friday night and I know I felt the Holy Spirit descend on me and I felt the freedom in Christ in a powerful way. But I haven't always walked in His ways. There was a time when I was not only living in this world but I was like the world and lived a wild and insane lifestyle. I am a prodigal daughter.

Unrighteous Anger
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/27/2010 12:19 PM
Today let me start off this lesson in prayer. Lord, we know that we are not worthy in any way to approach You or Your throne. But, we come before You humbly knowing that we are sinful creatures and in need of Your forgiveness. Lord, you have placed these words on my heart today about anger and its proper place in our hearts and minds. Bless these words in a way that only You can, and use them to further Your kingdom. Amen.

The Vine and the Branches
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/26/2010 12:26 PM
On the last night with His disciples, I believe the faces of Jesus’ disciples were burning in His heart. His eyes must have been moist. I can see Jesus trying to grab every facial expression and every bit of human eye contact He could for His last few hours with His disciples. He was trying to savor these last moments with them. Yes, He knew He would see them again but only briefly until heaven. He knew what they would endure on account of Him so He communicated to them deeper than ever.

Pointing to Jesus
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/25/2010 5:14 AM
John the Baptist was sent by God to be the forerunner for Jesus Messiah. He understood his God-given to assignment to prepare the way for God’s Anointed One (John 1:23). He knew that the One who would come after him that he would not be worthy to untie the thongs of his sandals (John 1:27). When Jesus passed by, John called out, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

The Grip of God
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/25/2010 5:08 AM
School field trips rock! I always learn so much when I go on them, but I don’t remember a thing I learned in school. Victoria’s field trip was to the Salato Wildlife Center which teaches kids to explore the different ecosystems in Kentucky and to admire the variety of plants, animals, fish, and birds. The field trip began with a classroom lesson on birds of prey and in particular owls.

Rays of the Son
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/21/2010 7:59 AM
Did you ever notice how we tend to “take on” that to which we expose ourselves? I am specifically thinking of sun bathing or using tanning booths. In spite of cautions about the harmful rays of sunlight or those emitted in the artificial light, some of us still like that “tanned” look.

Lord of the Harvest
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/20/2010 6:05 PM
Are you at all familiar with tobacco harvesting? Living in Kentucky and Tennessee, my husband and I have been surrounded by it almost every day of our lives. Farmers spend the early spring preparing the fields and getting the ground ready to plant. Then they use this really cool equipment to put the small, tender plants into the ground.

In the World, not of It
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/19/2010 3:31 PM
On Jesus’ last night as a man on earth, He prayed fervently for His disciples and for all who would believe in Him through their message. He did not pray for us to be taken from the world to a safe place. Instead, He prayed for the Father’s protection for us from the evil one. He prayed for us to not be of the world, just like He was not of it.

A Night to Remember
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/18/2010 8:21 AM
Well, the LORD did it! On May 11, Kendra and I along with Amy from Lifeway and the other LPL steering committee spoke at the Beth Moore event preparatory meeting – information and prayer gathering. God brought about 80 women to listen to the vision He gave us for the LPL event and our city.

The Gift of Work
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 5/17/2010 6:47 AM
I never thought of work as a gift. I always saw my work at Lexmark as my Joseph prison years. When Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son in the Old Testament was sold as a slave to Eqypt, he was wrongly accused and ended up in jail. He was in slavery and then in jail for 12 years. Genesis 29:20-23 says, “But while Joseph was there in the prison, the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
