God Never Sleeps
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/29/2010 4:20 PM
My two year old, Grace, wakes up very early some Saturday mornings, sometimes close to 5:30 a.m. She will come bouncing in happily announcing, “Mommy, I’m all done sleeping!” I groan and roll over and unhappily announce “Mommy is not!” With the weekdays providing some times only 5-6 hours of much needed sleep, that precious few extra hours on Saturday mornings is sacred and I am not usually willing to give that up.

Wise Builders
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/28/2010 9:10 PM
Before I walked with Jesus, the storms in my life crashed my house down. Since I committed my life to Him, the storms haven’t crashed my house, but they still happen. Storms can be induced by self, other people, demons, the natural world we live in, or even God. Most of my storms were self-induced before I walked with Jesus. Praise God the self-induced storms are fewer and spaced out more.

I told you previously that Kendra and I were involved in the Beth Moore Living Proof Live event in Lexington this summer. I’m giving you a preview today of the first devotion for the prayer guide that hundreds of women will be doing.

Egypt versus the Red Sea
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/25/2010 2:25 PM
Some of us have recently joined with groups who were celebrating the Biblical feast called Passover. We all know well the story of Passover where the children of Israel were delivered out of the bondage of Egypt. The excitement of the multitude mounted as they heard the devastation across the land of Egypt.

The Ultimate Gardener
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/21/2010 7:18 PM
Do you enjoy gardening? I love it. Ever since I was a very little girl, flowers and almost all plants have held a special place in my heart. My grandfather was a master green thumb when it came to petunias, which is where I believe I get my love of all things that grow in the ground. He lived in Tucson, Arizona, and even in that hot, dry climate, he had gardens of the most amazing petunias one has ever seen.

The Fear of the Lord
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/20/2010 4:18 AM
God’s Word tells us that we get wisdom by fearing God. Does this mean you and I should tremble and shake at God? How can we reconcile the God who desires relationship with the God who asks us to fear Him? Godly fear doesn’t immobilize. Godly fear doesn’t bring horror or dread. Godly fear brings awe. This fear brings respect for the hugeness of God. Every time angels appear in the Bible, they say, “Do not be afraid.”

Forgiving Friends
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/19/2010 2:20 PM
It’s the meanest thing that a first grade girl can say to another girl. She had even written the horrible words down and given the note to my precious niece. Then, she told my niece to wait until after she got home to read it because it would make her upset. My sister read the note when her daughter got home. Yes, the girl had taken a dagger and pierced and perforated my niece’s heart with the words, “I don’t want to be your friend anymore.”

Our Higher Calling
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/16/2010 8:35 AM
In this scripture John laid it out to his disciples exactly what his role and purpose in the Kingdom was. The words John spoke revealed he not only knew his calling but he embraced it and he was content with it. He had to set his disciples straight and press them into Jesus and away from himself.

Rest for the Weary
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/15/2010 2:03 PM
Don’t you just love that translation of this passage in Matthew? The Message translation has become one of my favorite translations lately, especially since my husband bought me a Message Bible for Easter (Yes, he is a keeper!)! The words just seem to roll together like a well laid story beckoning me to continue reading further and further into the Word of God.

Abba’s Supergirl
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 4/13/2010 8:28 AM
At the dinner table, Victoria appears to be any ordinary 4-year old in need of a bib to collect the food spillage as she tries to maneuver the fork to eat her food. When supper is over, though, the bib moves from her chest to her back. Her daddy flies her through the air from the table to the sink to wash her hands and says, “Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings with a single bound, it’s Supergirl!”
