The Outwitted’s Rage
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/30/2009 3:50 PM
King Herod was a monster. He was a brutal, power-thirsty ruler. Out of fear that they might take away his kingdom, he had his wife and three sons killed. Out of his desire for greatness, he rebuilt Solomon’s temple. Out of his desire to be mourned, he ordered that at his death that a representative from every Israeli family be put to death so there would be wailing when he died.

The Christmas Light
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/29/2009 6:12 PM
As we head through the Christmas season, one of the things that we love to do as a family is to drive around neighborhoods and look at all of the Christmas lights. There is something very special about the houses that have the greenery, red bows, and a single candle burning in each of the windows. It has such a classy look and feel.

Christmas Chaos
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/29/2009 6:11 PM
The activity on the highways and in the stores exceeds anything I have ever witnessed previously. Men and women seem to be dashing madly from place to place pursuing the “perfect” holiday. Woe to anyone who gets in the way with horns blowing, cars abruptly changing lanes with no warning, and store doors slamming in your face as the person in front of you exits with no regard for the person behind them.

Today a Savior was Born!
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/25/2009 3:57 PM
Merry Christmas! O, precious friend, what a great day it is! Today we celebrate the greatest gift ever given – God’s Son born in the city of David. He was the Christ, the Messiah. The angels announced to the shepherds that a Savior was born to them and for us, too. The greatest King was born in the humblest of settings.

Holy and Joyful Night!
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/24/2009 1:19 PM
Tonight is the night of Christmas Eve masses and services around the world. 2,000 years ago angels came from heaven’s realms to a field in Bethlehem. We do not know what time of day Christ was born. It is probably because the angels appeared to the shepherds at night that I have always thought the shepherds came to see Jesus after midnight on Christmas Eve, but before sunrise on Christmas Day.

A Treasure to Ponder
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/23/2009 11:24 AM
God’s Word does not record the many details between Joseph’s dream and this holy day in Bethlehem. I am looking forward to the heavenly version of the DVD to answer some questions. Did her parents support Mary, or were they ashamed? Was her labor quick and easy? What was Joseph’s reaction when they arrived in Bethlehem to find there was no room for them in the inn?

Or Olam
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/22/2009 2:38 PM
One of my favorite things to do at Christmas time is to see the Christmas lights. I squeal like a young child when our lights go up outside in our tree and bushes. I drive my family in our van through some of the nicer neighborhoods to see their lights. We enjoy lights of all colors – white, blue, green, and red. Some houses have stars, lights on Christmas wreaths, or a candle burning in every window.

God’s News Reports
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/21/2009 4:13 PM
Jesus’ birth was the most important event since the creation of the world. Yet, the people thought the census was the biggest news of that time. Innkeepers and merchants were filling their money pouches with the travelers’ money. Most people did not know the Son of God had left heaven to become the Son of Man.

Jesus Still Weeps
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/18/2009 11:13 PM
Two of the most precious words ever written are found in John 11:35, “Jesus wept.” To see our sweet Lord, with His heart breaking, weeping, and mourning over a loved one. Weeping and mourning go hand-in-hand.

The Best Gift
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 12/17/2009 8:44 AM
Christmas, my absolute favorite time of year, is approaching and with it all of the joys that the season will bring…A time of baking sweet treats…A time of fellowship with friends and families…Parties galore…And of course, the presents that we all long to unwrap! If we could just enjoy the presents without having to do all of the shopping beforehand,
