Pray Continually

While meditating on these three verses, God gave me today’s devotion and two other devotions, “Be Joyful Always” and “Give Thanks.” These verses were Victoria’s Scriptures to memorize at school. Every time my kids learn verses at school, I learn them, too, since I go over them so many times with my daughters.

Thank You!

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 sometime between September 21 and November 1. After the first harvest, Governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving and prayer for all the colonists and neighboring Indians. In the American Revolution, an annual day of national thanksgiving was suggested by the Continental Congress.

Give Thanks

Oh, my, did I blow it! After we eat dinner together in my house, it is study time. Since my husband was having Bible study in the living room, my adopted Chinese daughter-of-my-heart Victoria and I snuggled next to each other while sitting on my bed. I hold her book and use my pointer finger to show her which word to read.

How thankful are you this holiday season? Have you lost the joy that you once knew or have you always struggled with what you could possibly be thankful for? So many times we get bogged down in the hassles of our day to day lives and we lose sight of the fact that we have so very much to be thankful for.

Be Joyful

For thirty minutes, she laughed and cackled in her bed. It must have been thirty minutes. She rolled around in those covers laughing until her ribs hurt. I was spending the weekend with my daughter. When we tried to go to sleep, she just laid in that bed, hooted, and cackled at something that her friend had told her at school.

Beautiful Houses
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 11/20/2009 2:33 PM
There are so many beautiful houses and I can't help but notice them when I'm out walking with my kids or taking a drive around town. I often wonder as I pass them what they look like inside, what flavor the décor is, or what the layout of the house might be.

There Are No Orphans

Recently some of our dearest friends went through foster parenting classes and became certified to be foster parents. They have so much love to share and already have extra children - cousins, friends from the neighborhood, and kids from church - running through their house on a regular basis. However, they truly felt that they should offer up their home to children who do not have a stable home environment of their own.

The Comparison Sin

At a National Women’s Convention, I heard Donna Otto, the leader of Homemaker’s By Choice, say, “A talk show host asked me a strange question one time that I had never thought about before. The host asked me, ‘What is the greatest sin of women today?’. I gave a one-word answer. For the next couple of weeks, I asked God to confirm for me that I gave the right answer.” (my paraphrase)

Shining Like Stars

Grace and I were sitting at Nathan’s baseball game, and it was starting to get quite chilly after the sun had gone down. We were snuggling together to try to stay warm and having a lively chat between the two of us. The sky was about as clear as it could possibly be, which added to the coolness of the night air. As we were sitting there,

Even if today’s story is familiar to you, imagine yourself as if you do not know the outcome and you were the first eyewitness. The first time I saw the Jesus film from Reverend Billy Graham Ministries with my daughters I was mesmerized. When it was time for the miracle of feeding the 5,000, the five loaves and two fish were brought to Jesus. He lifted the two baskets in the air and prayed: “Blessed art Thou, O Lord Our God, King of the Universe, who bringeth forth bread from the earth.”
