Before and After
Daily Devotions 5/29/2009 3:49 AM
We’ve all seen the infomercials with the before and after picture - how a person’s picture looks before then after. Do you realize you have a before and after picture with Jesus? Paul certainly did. Before Christ, Paul was out exposing people who lived for Christ. After Christ, Paul was proclaiming Jesus is the Messiah.

God's Revelation to His Servants
Daily Devotions 5/28/2009 3:56 AM
God tells His servants the prophets what is going to happen because He wants to be unmistakable. He desires to be clearly identifiable to His people. God is not a firefighter reacting to the situation at hand. Contrarily, He is the one moving things into motion and setting the stage for the events. God does nothing without revealing it first to His prophets, His servants.

Peace of God

The Gospel of John records the intimate details of the disciples’ last night with Jesus. Jesus told them that one of the disciples would betray Him. The charge of treachery stunned them. They questioned their own hearts, “Surely, not I, Lord.” Then, Jesus told them that they would be ashamed of Him. They all would fall away. Even Peter, the rock, would fall away.

Draw Me Nearer

When Nathan was in kindergarten, he received a pair of orbs that are highly magnetic. He participated in some type of competition, and this was one of the prizes for that competition. Now, these are not just ordinary magnets; these are so strong that when they are brought close enough to each other, they slam together with such force that the box warned kids not to have their fingers near the insides of the orbs for fear of getting them pinched (great toy for children I know!).

The Way of the Cross Leads Home
Daily Devotions 5/26/2009 4:22 AM
I was at a prayer meeting recently where the leader played the piano, and we sang the words of the beautiful old hymn, “The way of the cross leads home.” The actual title of the song is, I Must Needs Go Home. My imagination took flight as I thought of the comparisons of a good earthly home and our heavenly home.

Joshua led his men in an all night march through the steepest elevation. Five Amorite kings had joined together to fight against Israel’s covenant partner Gibeon. Joshua and his army responded to the Gibeonites’ plea to not abandon them. His army took them by surprise, and the Lord threw them into confusion.

Leah: The Swapped Bride
Daily Devotions 5/20/2009 3:35 AM
When Jacob saw his Uncle Laban’s daughter Rachel, it was love at first sight. He was so spellbound by her that he rolled away a stone to impress her. Love-struck Jacob agreed to work for Laban for seven years in return for his daughter Rachel’s hand in marriage.

A Mess of Tangles
Daily Devotions 5/19/2009 3:56 AM
My darling family is so very precious to me, and it pains me to be away from them so often with my sales consulting position. However, my precious husband fulfills both roles of mom and dad while I am away, and I get to hear all of the stories once I have returned home. Most of the things with the home and the children get done and are done very well while I am gone. He will do the laundry, reheat the meals I have prepared before leaving, give the kids their baths, etc. You know, normal household activities that have to happen daily, even while I am away.

Must Be Present to Win
Daily Devotions 5/18/2009 5:32 PM
How many times have you signed up for a prize giveaway at some store, only to notice at the bottom those small words in a disclaimer – “Must be present to win”? We groan and know that we will likely not be back there for the grand prize drawing, unless there is something extraordinary at stake. There is something to be said about being there in person – and it might even win you a prize in the end. But, how many of us have thought about this term in our own lives?

He Calls Your Name
Daily Devotions 5/15/2009 4:54 AM
Recently my 8 year old, Savannah, said, "Mom, I know that God can speak all the languages like English, Spanish, and French, but what language does He speak the most? Or, which one do you think is His favorite?"
