A Lady Bug Moment
Daily Devotions 3/31/2009 4:20 AM
My precious four year old is singing in our church’s children’s Easter program, and this year we are all about bugs. One of my favorite songs in the program is called “A Lady Bug Moment,” and of course I know the words because we listen to it every day on the way to work and on the way home from work. It goes something like this…“I’m a little lolly, roly, poly, lady bug. Everybody thinks that I am sort of cute. They all smile when they see me underneath the rug.

Darkness Hides the Flaws
Daily Devotions 3/30/2009 4:46 AM
Several years ago, my husband and I were very blessed to be able to build our own home from scratch. Every detail was ours to go through and decide, even down to the light switches and bathroom tub drain covers. However, with much detail comes much responsibility in verifying everything has actually been completed according to the plan. We spent much time over at the house from the day that they first started excavating the land to the day that they handed us the keys and were allowed to move in. It was a great experience, and we learned so much from those days.

Shout Out Praise
Daily Devotions 3/27/2009 4:40 AM
I was so tickled by this verse this morning during my quiet time. I wish I had put the date in my Bible of when I first started this, but I pray these verses in Colossians often for my children. And just a few days ago my eight year old was overflowing with thankfulness!!!!

Poured Out

In the first story about Mary in the Bible, she is found sitting at Jesus’ feet while He is teaching. Her sister Martha is distracted by the preparations and complains to Jesus that she is not helping her. Luke 10:41-42 says, “ ‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’ "

Drawn to Jesus
Daily Devotions 3/25/2009 5:46 AM
While my friend Wilma and I were talking the other day, she told me that she was preparing her heart for Resurrection Sunday through a devotion book. She said she had been thinking a lot about what drew people to Jesus. Before we could go any further, the church service started, and our conversation had to end. However, God would not let that go in me. He asked me to start preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection and to meditate on the people’s attraction to Jesus.

Are You Lost?
Daily Devotions 3/24/2009 11:04 AM
He could not have been more than about two years old, and I think of a different nationality. But, the sheer look of terror in his eyes sent chills down my spine, just thinking what this sweet little boy was feeling inside, as we all quickly came to the conclusion that he was indeed lost. We were at the water park of a local amusement park and were spending a quiet day just resting in the shade near the wave pool. I was relaxing on a chair with my youngest child when we started to notice a commotion near the edge of the water.

The Walls Came Down
Daily Devotions 3/23/2009 4:08 AM
In 1961, a wall was erected between East and West Berlin. Communism took over Eastern Germany in 1948 and began to repress the lives of the people living in that part of the country. West Germany remained democratic and received money from the U.S. under the Marshall plan to improve the economic conditions of the country. Over the 13 years between 1948 and 1961, roughly 2.6 million people defected from East Germany to West Germany to improve their quality of life and find something that was greatly lacking on the East side – freedom.

I don’t know about you, but someone telling me to rest awhile is not a very common thing. As a mother of three, rest is the last thing that is willingly offered to me. I fill my life with MANY good things. I believe this is true of most people.

Jesus' Invitation
Daily Devotions 3/20/2009 4:27 AM
An invitation was first issued to all mankind at the cross as Jesus’ death provided the blood sacrifice which God requires as payment for an individual’s sins. We are in the season of focusing on that sacrifice and the provision for salvation it supplied to those who would accept His invitation. The day is often referred to as Good Friday with the Savior’s glorious resurrection following as He came up out of that grave.

Under Whose Wings
Daily Devotions 3/19/2009 4:30 AM
Because of the famine in Israel, Naomi and her husband decided to move to Moab. Moab was a polytheistic nation, which means that the people there worshiped many gods. Their two sons married Moabite women. Maybe Naomi grieved at first that her sons had chosen foreign wives and not Hebrew wives. Their wives were named Ruth and Orpah. If you know the ending to the story of Ruth, then you know that she chose the God of Israel.
