Daily Devotions

Daily Devotions 11/27/2008 4:34 AM
How thankful are you this holiday season? Have you lost the joy that you once knew or have you always struggled with what you could possibly be thankful for? So many times we get bogged down in the hassles of our day to day lives and we lose sight of the fact that we have so very much to be thankful for.

Give Thanks
Daily Devotions 11/26/2008 5:10 AM
Oh, my, did I blow it! After we eat dinner together in my house, it is study time. Since my husband was having Bible study in the living room, my adopted Chinese daughter-of-my-heart Victoria and I snuggled next to each other while sitting on my bed. I hold her book and use my pointer finger to show her which word to read. This year, Victoria has been very resistant to learning with Mommy. In preschool she was a great learner, but she has lost interest in learning and is not doing as well in school.

Be Joyful

For thirty minutes, she laughed and cackled in her bed. It must have been thirty minutes. She rolled around in those covers laughing until her ribs hurt. I was spending the weekend with my daughter. When we tried to go to sleep, she just laid in that bed, hooted, and cackled at something that her friend had told her at school. It was so contagious that I laughed, too. She kept saying in a deep voice, “The sheep is in the stew.” Now, isn’t that the most ridiculous thing?

The Leftovers
Daily Devotions 11/24/2008 3:17 AM
My family thrives on leftovers. With such a busy life (church, ministries, jobs, schools, sports, and more), during the week, there is typically not enough time to fix a meal from scratch so I fix larger batches of things on the weekend that will yield leftovers throughout the week. Then, I just add in new things with the leftovers so we do not get bored with the same meal from day to day.

Honor You, Lord

I couldn’t believe that it had happened. I held myself together, escaped to my office, and closed the door. Then, I let my emotions spill out to God. I told God how angry I was that my co-worker had acted that way to me and felt that way about my God! He was my friend. We had worked on programs for many years. We had talked about the Lord countless times. Yet, it was he who heckled me about my beliefs in the Word of God and the election.

The Heart of the Father
Daily Devotions 11/20/2008 3:12 AM
The words “Heart of the Father” have been stirring in my spirit for several weeks. I am desperate to know His heart and to feel every beat it makes. I want to know what is important to Him and what He takes great delight in. I want to be more like Him in every area of my life. I want my heart beating for the same thing His does.

Bought With a Price
Daily Devotions 11/19/2008 3:35 AM
God gave me the most precious word this summer. It was a hard word. Actually, it was a rebuke. After I finished videotaping Jesus Lives, I knew that God was leading me to study Elijah and write a study. However, I still had to edit the printed version of Jesus Lives, write two devotions a week, tend to the things that I neglected for four years, and learn a new role at work (development cryptography manager – yeh, hard enough to pronounce, imagine how many brain cells it took to learn about that subject!) All of these required a step back into my home and out of the public teaching ministry. It has stunted my progress in the writing of Elijah.

Just One Touch

This poor woman had been suffering from bleeding for years. We do not know for sure what her affliction was, but we know that she had been suffering from it for twelve years. She had even bankrupted herself at the hands of all the doctors and physicians to try to find relief; only none came. My heart just breaks for this sweet woman who only wanted to be healed and lead a normal life with her friends and family.

Who Is Greatest?
Daily Devotions 11/17/2008 3:42 AM
Nathan, our six year old, like most children his age, struggles with what it means to truly be a servant. He constantly wants to be the center of attention and to be recognized for what he has accomplished. Aren’t we all like that sometimes! And, if he has to do so to the detriment of his little sister, then so be it!

Is To Come
Daily Devotions 11/14/2008 4:59 AM
When I went to Israel at the beginning of the year, many people asked me if I was concerned about going to the most volatile place in the world and in all of the history of mankind. In addition to this, my friend had a vision of where people had been harmed, but she didn’t know if it was our trip or not. As much as I understand people’s concern over the volatile region and as much as I esteem the Spirit of the Lord in my friend, I knew one thing.
