Who Is This?
Daily Devotions 5/31/2008 3:20 AM
Jesus and the disciples were in a furious squall; the waves were breaking over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Verse 37 says that Jesus was sleeping. The disciples woke Him up and said, “Teacher don’t you care if we drown?” Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” The disciples were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him?” WHO IS THIS?

Glass Houses
Daily Devotions 5/29/2008 9:40 AM
I was talking to a friend recently and during our conversation they brought up an incident of a Brother in Christ who was accused of something that was damaging to them and potentially their ministry. When my friend left my office and I headed home for the day I started thinking about a song my junior high chorus teacher taught us called Glass Houses.

The Refiner's Fire
Daily Devotions 5/28/2008 3:59 AM
A refiner’s fire…Just picture it with me now. A blazing hot furnace stands ready to burn off any material that is not of the purest gold. Gold mixtures with various impurities are placed in a ceramic container and are then exposed to the intense temperature of a furnace that has been heated upwards of 2000 oF. The high temperatures are necessary to get all of the materials into a liquid form so that the impurities would float to the top of the mixture.

When The Time Had Fully Come
Daily Devotions 5/27/2008 5:03 AM
Imagine the questions of people in the market place, in the fields, and at the dinner tables. The people envisioned political greatness, a world conquering Messiah, and an eternal King with divine power. When would Messiah come? When would He throw off the Roman rule over the people? When would He raise up His kingdom? When would the “Son of David” restore the splendor of the Jewish throne? When would God speak again to the people? How long would He keep silent? Why was He waiting?

Your Life's Novel
Daily Devotions 5/26/2008 4:56 PM
On a business trip a few weeks ago, I found myself getting lost in this really intriguing series of Christian science fiction books. It was all about knights, dragons, princesses, and fairy creatures, but with a spiritual and moral discipline weaved into the storyline. I was captivated by it and could not put the entire series down even at the detriment of sleep. I kept saying to myself, “Just one more page or just the other book in the series,” because I felt I had to know what was happening to the characters in those pages.

The Good Samaritan's Love
Daily Devotions 5/23/2008 2:16 AM
The Samaritan traveled by and reacted completely different than the two religious leaders that previously passed the injured man. God’s Word tells us that “when he saw him, he took pity on him.” This Greek word is splanchinizomai which means, “It is being moved to the point of one’s intestines or bowels.” The Samaritan felt compassion for the man so much that he physically ached for him. He saw the man in agony and was stirred from deep within himself.

When We Ask
Daily Devotions 5/22/2008 5:40 PM
I was helping teach a class the other night and was blessed to have been given the section on prayer. I love prayer! I can’t express enough how much I love to pray and go before our Abba Father.

The Open Door
Daily Devotions 5/21/2008 3:56 AM
Once when I was a teenager, my mom and dad had new keys made for the doors to the house so my brother and I would have our own keys. The problem was that the new keys did not work exactly like they were supposed to and required some “skill” to make them actually unlock the lock. I had come home from school one afternoon and tried and tried to make the new key work so I could actually open the door and come into my home.

God's News Reports
Daily Devotions 5/20/2008 4:55 AM
Jesus’ birth was the most important event since the creation of the world. Yet, the people thought the census was the biggest news of that time. Innkeepers and merchants were filling their money pouches with the travelers’ money. Most people did not know the Son of God had left heaven to become the Son of Man. The Bethlehem news team didn’t report His birth in the 6:00 news. The biggest news of all time was not immediately reported.

What Kind of Seasoning Are You?
Daily Devotions 5/19/2008 5:18 AM
During the summer, we love to make homemade salsa. Even the kids get involved mixing together diced, homegrown tomatoes, cilantro out of the herb garden, fresh hot peppers, and my secret ingredient – very coarse sea salt. Now, you might be saying, “Isn’t all salt basically the same?”
